Whitemarked Tussock Moth caterpillar,
Orgyia leucostigma
This splendidly marked caterpillar will metamorphose into a rather nondescript looking brown moth. The preferred food of these larvae is oak leaves, although the one pictured here was eating the leaves of a rose .
